Hilda Nuutinen Named Women's Lacrosse Head Coach

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin Superior and Yellowjacket Athletics have announced that, following a national search, Hilda Nuutinen has been hired as the first head coach of the UW-Superior women's lacrosse program.
 
Nuutinen will be tasked with building the program from the ground up in preparation for its debut during the 2026-27 academic year. The women's lacrosse program will be an affiliate member of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).
 
"I want to thank the hiring committee and UW-Superior for this incredible opportunity. I'm honored to be named the head women's lacrosse coach and excited to begin building this program from the ground up," Nuutinen said. "It's a unique and inspiring challenge and I'm looking forward to creating a strong foundation that will empower student-athletes to grown, compete and succeed on and off the field.
 
Nuutinen comes to UW-Superior from Hudson (Wis.) High School, where she has served as the co-head coach since 2021, overseeing every aspect of the program. She has guided Hudson to a top ten state ranking every year she's served as head coach. She has also spent time Minnesota Chill and Homegrown Lacrosse.
 
As a player, the Hudson native spent three seasons at NCAA Division II Northern Michigan University, playing in 20 games, starting in six. She graduated from Northern Michigan in 2023 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in public relations while minoring in German studies. She is currently working on a Master's Degree in sports management at Concordia St. Paul.
 
"We are excited to have Hilda lead our women's lacrosse program. Her background in high school and club lacrosse will help with our immediate recruiting efforts, and her passion and vision for building a holistic, competitive program was evident throughout the search process," said Nick Bursik, UW-Superior Director of Athletics.
 
Nuutinen will begin her duties at UW-Superior June 2, with her first day on campus being June 23.
