Women's Soccer Coach Allison DeGroot Resigns

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin Superior and Yellowjacket Athletics have announced Allison DeGroot has resigned as the head women's soccer coach. DeGroot is leaving UW-Superior to join the coaching staff at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

"I want to thank Nick Bursik and the entire UW-Superior community. My time at UWS has been incredibly meaningful to me. The last eight years, I have experienced immeasurable joy, pride and love within this program," DeGroot said. "To the current team, remember to believe in yourselves and believe in each other. You are capable of more than you know when you lead from your values and do it for the team. The future of this program is bright and whoever takes over will find a group of talented, motivated, and great people. I am forever changed by UW-Superior and the players I have had the privilege to coach."

DeGroot came to UW-Superior after serving as an assistant coach at Augsburg University. In her first season she increased the Yellowjackets win total from the year before. She doubled the program's win to eight, going 8-11-3 in 2018. After back-to-back seven-win seasons in 2019 and 2020, the Yellowjackets made a significant jump in 2021, with the Yellowjackets setting a program record with 18 wins, along with a record winning percentage of .804. That year, the Yellowjackets claimed their first ever Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season and tournament championships, as well as advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.

The Yellowjackets continued their dominance in the coming years, winning both the UMAC regular season and tournament titles and advancing to the NCAA Tournament in 2022, 2023 and 2024. She was named the UMAC Coach of the Year six times in her nine seasons.

In her time with the Yellowjackets, DeGroot coached 40 All-UMAC players.

"During her tenure, Allison has transformed our women's soccer program into a championship-caliber program. The awards and accolades achieved on the field are parallel to the personal impact she has had with her student-athletes, helping mentor and empower them to become the best versions of themselves," said Nick Bursik, UW-Superior Director of Athletics. "We are immensely grateful for her leadership and wish her the very best in her future endeavors."

DeGroot fashioned a 90-59-13 record in her eight seasons. A national search for her replacement will begin immediately.
