Sam Romutis Named Club Men's Hockey Coach

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin Superior and Yellowjacket Athletics have announced, following a national search, the hiring of Sam Romutis as the head coach of the UW-Superior club men's hockey team.

Romutis was chosen to start the club men's hockey program, which will compete in the American College Hockey Association (ACHA) at the Division II level.

"I am extremely excited to be joining the Yellowjacket family. This is an amazing opportunity to build a competitive team from the ground up, and I am honored to be the first head coach in program history," Romutis said. "This school has a proven track record of sustained success in athletics, and I hope to contribute to that success from day one."

Romutis comes to UW-Superior from the Texas Roadrunners of the NA3HL. With Texas, Romutis was an assistant coach for two seasons and helped the Roadrunners to a 44-41-8-1 record. He is currently a scout for the Odessa Jackalopes of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), where he also had a stretch as an assistant coach.

In addition to his coaching positions, Romutis also has experience working with teams at levels from youth through junior hockey and has an extensive background in hockey camps, including position players and goaltenders.

"We are thrilled to welcome Sam to lead our club men's hockey program. He has a strong vision for building the foundation to the program to achieve competitive success," UW-Superior Director of Athletics Nick Bursik said. "We look forward to watching the team compete this upcoming season"

Romutis' first day with the club men's hockey program will be May 19.
