Yellowjackets Scoot Past The Scots 78-73

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Yellowjacket men's basketball team embarked on their final non-conference game of the regular season heading south to the Twin Cities to play Macalester. Superior was able to get big performances from Evan Bennett (Superior, Wis./Superior) and Landen Thomer (Mosinee, Wis./Mosinee) on the way to beat the Scots by a final score of 78-73.

Game Notes:

  • Macalester jumped out to an early 10-3 lead before two three point makes from Bennett and Thomer were able to get the 'Jackets going.

  • The Yellowjackets were able to get their first lead of the game off a layup from Nick Nordaune (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) before Andrew Beers (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) hit a three-pointer and Jamichael Breauxsaus-Ollie (Plymouth, Minn./Fridley) made a layup to extend the lead.

  • Macalester was able to regain the lead at 36-35, heading into halftime.

  • The beginning of the second half saw the two teams trade buckets before Macalester was able to jump out to a seven-point lead. The 'Jackets were able to fight back off three straight three point makes from Bennett, Hayden Quimby (Menasha, Wis./Xavier) and Nordaune.

  • The 'Jackets regained the lead as Bennett stole a pass and scored a wide-open layup, never again surrendering the lead as Beers put the exclamation point on the game with a dunk in the final seconds.

  • Bennett led the way in scoring for UWS with 19 points while Thomer secured yet another double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

  • Macalester was led in scoring by Noah Shannon, who had 23 points while Noah Hamburge poured in 20 for the Scots.

The Yellowjackets (4-9) now enter conference play with their first matchup against North Central on Wednesday. Tip-off between the 'Jackets and Rams is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. inside Clark-Danielson Gymnasium in Minneapolis.
