Superior Drops Pair of Games to UW-Eau Claire

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The Yellowjacket softball team was back in action for the first time since returning from Florida as they took on UW-Eau Claire in a doubleheader. Unfortunately, Superior fell in both games 3-5 in the first and on a walk off in the second 8-9.  

Game 1 Notes: 

  • The Blugolds put up a crooked number in the bottom of the second scoring five runs in the frame.  

  • The Yellowjackets were able to answer in the top of the fourth as Peyton Bennett (Harrisburg, S.D./Harrisburg) launched a home run to put the 'Jackets on the board.  

  • Samantha Swartz (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) gave the 'Jackets there second run as she singled home Carly Stuckmayer (Delano, Minn./Delano) in the top of the fifth.  

  • Swartz came through again in the seventh with her second RBI single of the game which scored Kylie Hochsprung (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North).  

  • Abby Mitchell (Cloquet, Minn./Carlton) pitched all nine innings giving up six hits and all five Eau Claire runs four of which were earned.  

Game 2 Notes: 

  • The Blugolds scored the first four runs in the game two in the first and one in each the second and third innings.  

  • The Yellowjackets got on the board in the fifth courtesy of Hochsprung, who launched a two-run home run that scored Kylie Zwak (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East).  

  • The Blugolds answered back the next half inning with four runs to give them a 8-2 advantage. 

  • A big top of the sixth inning for Superior got started with Swartz, who singled home Megan Witt (Burnsville, Minn./Eagan) to make the score 8-3.  

  • Zwak gave the 'Jackets another run with an RBI single that scored Stuckmayer.  

  • Larissa Snyder (Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park) stepped up the plate with the bases loaded and launched a grand slam to tie game.  

  • Eau Claire was able to win the game in the bottom of the seventh as Breeley Gluch scored on an error to walk off the 'Jackets.  

  • The trio of Bethany Lewis (Antigo, Wis./Antigo), Mitchell and Georgia Youngblood (Ray, Mich./Lutheran North) pitched for Superior. Lewis made the start giving up nine hits and five runs while Youngblood took the loss, giving up four hits and one earned run.  

UW-Superior is scheduled to be in action Friday for their UMAC opener against Northwestern. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the NBC Sports Complex.
