MANKATO, Minn. - The Yellowjacket softball team was in action for their first UMAC game against Bethany Lutheran. The Yellowjackets were able to take an early lead, but a big second inning for the Vikings propelled them to the 7-6 victory.  

Game Notes: 

• Tessa Twedt (Brookings, S.D./Brookings) got the scoring started for Superior as she drove home Karen Balabon (Elk River, Minn./Elk River) and Larrissa Snyder for the first two runs.  

• In the top half of the second inning, Peyton Bennett (Harrisburg, S.D./Harrisburg) scored Samantha Swartz (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) on an RBI double to put the 'Jackets up 3-0.  

• The Vikings were able to come back with six runs scoring five in the second and one in the third.  

• In the fourth, an error allowed Kylie Zwak (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) to score to make the score 6-4. BLC added their seventh run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 7-4. 

• Swartz gave the 'Jackets some life in the seventh as a two rbi single made the score 7-6, but Superior couldn't scrape across another run.  

• Abby Mitchell (Cloquet, Minn./Carlton) made the start for the Yellowjackets pitching two innings, allowing five runs and striking out three. Bethany Lewis (Antigo, Wis./Antigo) went the final four innings for Superior allowing two runs and striking out one batter. 

The Yellowjackets and Vikings square off again tomorrow for games two and three of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Thomas Park in Mankato.
