SUPERIOR, Wis. – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has revealed its Division III grant recipients, and the University of Wisconsin-Superior and Yellowjacket Athletics have been awarded the NCAA Strategic Alliance grant to appoint a Director of Student-Athlete Leadership and Development.
The Division III Strategic Alliance Matching Grant provides financial support for a full-time, mid- to senior-level athletics administration role. These positions, funded during a five-year commitment, range in responsibilities in areas such as strategic planning, budget management, fundraising, compliance, and student-athlete welfare.
Through the grant, UW-Superior will establish a Director of Student-Athlete Leadership and Development position focused on enriching the educational and personal experiences of Yellowjacket student-athletes. The director will lead department-wide initiatives that enhance the student-athlete experience, foster belonging and community, and promote meaningful engagement through leadership education and service opportunities. Furthermore, the role will provide professional development opportunities for coaches and athletic staff and deepen connections amongst the university to expand resources and support to student-athletes.
"We are incredibly grateful to the NCAA for selecting UW-Superior as a recipient of the Strategic Alliance grant," said Director of Athletics Nick Bursik. "This position will have a direct and lasting impact on the student-athlete experience and furthers our commitment to the holistic development of our student-athletes."
A national search will commence immediately.
