SUPERIOR, Wis. – Following a national search, the University of Wisconsin-Superior and Yellowjacket Athletics have announced
Allison DeGroot as its Director of Student-Athlete Leadership and Development.
DeGroot's role has been made possible through the NCAA's Strategic Alliance grant. In this role, she will focus on enriching the educational and personal experiences of Yellowjacket student-athletes. DeGroot will provide professional development opportunities for coaches and athletic staff members while leading department-wide initiatives that enhance the student-athlete experience, foster belonging and community, and promote engagement through service opportunities.
"I'm excited to return to UW-Superior, where so many staff, faculty, students, and alumni are like family," DeGroot said. "Supporting the holistic development of student-athletes has always been my greatest passion – ensuring they leave their collegiate years with a strong sense of who they are, what they value, and how to build meaningful community. I'm grateful to Nick Bursik and the search committee for believing in me and for the opportunity to serve all student-athletes at UW-Superior."
A familiar face to Yellowjacket Athletics, DeGroot returns to UWS following a stint as the top assistant coach for the William Smith soccer program in 2025, where they went 11-3-3. Before her year out east, she coached the Yellowjacket women's soccer program to four consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) championships and four-straight berths to the NCAA Tournament.
Leading the 'Jackets for eight years, DeGroot serves as the winningest coach in women's soccer history, compiling an overall record of 90-59-13.
"Allison has a genuine passion for mentoring student-athletes and building meaningful relationships with both coaches and students," Nick Bursik, UW-Superior director of athletic said. "Her commitment to leadership development, personal growth, and the overall student-athlete experience makes her an outstanding fit for this position. As we continue to invest in the holistic development of our student-athletes, Allison will play a vital role in preparing them for success both during their time at UW-Superior and long after graduation."
DeGroot will begin her duties in preparation for the fall semester and begin working with Yellowjacket student-athletes and coaches ahead of the 2026-27 academic term.
