SUPERIOR, Wis. – Tuesday evening the Yellowjacket men's soccer team played host to Northwestern as they continued Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action. The 'Jackets didn't waste much time, scoring within the first 10 minutes of play and converting later in the second half in a 6-0 shutout of the Eagles.
Match Notes
- Melvin Andersson (Kalmar, Sweden/Stagneliusskolan) and Harvey McLoughlin (London, England/Highgate Woods) were ducking and dodging Eagle defenders around the 18, and after breaking away McLoughlin sent a feed towards Valentin Soares (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Equipe) who sent one towards the back of the net for the early lead.
- At halftime, the 'Jackets led 10-4 in total shots while also obtaining the upper hand in shots on goal.
- Jay'ce Jones (Torrance, Calif./Palisades Charter) logged a goal at the 48th minute of play after receiving an assist from Seth Davidson (Sartell, Minn./Sartell), firing a left-footed shot into the bottom-right corner of the net.
- Five minutes later, Davidson converted on a corner kick courtesy of Alek Pyrah (London, England/Chiswick School) to extend Superior's lead to 3-0.
- Davidson struck again at the 68th minute of play for his second of the match. Assists on the goal were given to Giacomo Ruggiero (Toronto, Ontario/Phillip Pocock Catholic) and Jacob Wyles (Watlington, Oxfordshire/FAB Academy). He would later complete the hat trick 10 minutes later, giving the 'Jackets a 5-0 lead.
- Wyatt Nelson (River Falls, Wis./River Falls) scored his first collegiate goal at the 81st minute of play, courtesy of a touch from Adam Schmidt (Fargo, N.D./West Fargo Sheyenne) for the final scoring play.
- In the entire match, Superior led in shots 28-5 with Davidson accounting for seven.
The Yellowjackets continue UMAC play on Saturday where they travel to Minnesota Morris. The opening kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m.
