Dylan Johnson begins his first season as an assistant coach for the Yellowjacket men's hockey team under Rich McKenna in 2026-27.
Johnson spent the 2025-26 season behind the bench as an assistant coach for St. Olaf College. The Oles capped the season with an overall record of 12-9-5, advancing to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Tournament for the fifth year in a row.
Prior to beginning his coaching career, Johnson entered the professional ranks and embarked on a two-year career with the Birmingham Bulls of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL), while also joining the Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) for a brief stint with the Motor City Rockers. In his two seasons of professional hockey (2022-24), he amassed 17 goals and 35 assists for 52 total points.
After he concluded his professional career, Johnson served as an assistant coach for the boys' hockey program with his alma mater, Cloquet High School.
No stranger to UW-Superior, Johnson skated in 64 games for the Yellowjackets across three years. He finished his collegiate career with 60 points (30 goals and 30 assists) and was honored by the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) in every season, including Newcomer of the Year honors in 2019-20, an Honorable Mention citation as a sophomore and an All-WIAC First Team distinction as a junior in 2021-22.
A native of Cloquet, Minn., Johnson graduated from UW-Superior in 2022 with a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science.
