Kayla Walton is in her first season as an assistant coach for the Yellowjacket volleyball team under head coach Lynne Deadrick in 2023. She primarily works with setters and also assists with defensive specialists.
In addition to her coaching position, Walton is currently employed in the Educational Success Center as the disability services advisor. She was named to the position in 2022.
Walton brings a wealth of knowledge to UW-Superior, having experience coaching athletes of all ages for over ten years. She joins the 'Jackets coaching staff after coaching with Crossfire Volleyball for three years, which is based in Champlin, Minn. Additionally, Walton served as a volleyball coach for both Duluth East High School and Club Hounds for two years.
Collegiately, Walton played for the University of St. Thomas, a program that was no stranger to the postseason. During her freshman season the Tommies would go on to win the NCAA Division III National Championship, ending the 2012 season with a dominant record of 40-1. Throughout the rest of her career, she would help the Tommies to three Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) championships and a regional championship.
Walton graduated from St. Thomas with a Bachelor's Degree in psychology in 2016. She would further her education and receive a Master's Degree in rehabilitation counseling from UW-Stout.
Walton resides in Duluth, Minn.
