Prior to taking the reins of the athletics department, Bursik was the head baseball coach, a position he held for three seasons (2012-15). He was 39-70-1 (.359) at the helm.

Bursik took over as head coach of the UW-Superior softball program on an interim basis in November 2018, skippering the team through 2020. He led the 'Jackets to a 23-24 overall record, including wins in their first 12 games to open Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play in 2019. UWS finished 14-2 in the league, earning the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament. Bursik was named UMAC Coach of the Year, and had five players named to the All-UMAC team. UWS was 5-5 in 2020 prior to the cancellation of the remainder of the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A graduate of UW-Superior, Bursik was a four-year letterwinner as a pitcher for UWS. Bursik appeared in 40 games, making 18 starts from 2009-12. He went 5-16 with a 5.91 ERA in 128 innings.

During his career, he was awarded the team’s Pitcher of the Year award in 2011 and also received the athletic department award as the top male scholar-athlete in 2011 and 2012 for his scholastic accomplishments.

Bursik graduated with Bachelor of Science degrees in business marketing and business management. He furthered his education with a Master's Degree in business administration from the College of St. Scholastica in 2018.
