A hallmark of the Stevens Point men's basketball team is consistency.  They're consistent when they shoot the ball and almost nightly find their shooting percentage at or over 50%.  The Yellowjackets learned that first hand on Saturday.  The Yellowjackets actually grabbed an early lead, scoring the first basket of the game.  Unfortunately for them, that is the only lead they would hold, as the Pointers ran out to a big first half lead and just kept stretching it en route to an 85-47 win at Berg Gymnasium in Stevens Point.

The Pointers shot 56.7% in the first half and then fell off, but not really, shooting 53.8% in the second half.

Trent Davis (Apple Valley, Minn./St. Bernard's) hit a jumper 33 seconds into the game to give the Yellowjackets the lead.  Unfortunately, that was essentially for the Yellowjackets.  The Pointers would go on a mini-run to jump out to a 17-9 lead.  By the time the first half was done, the Yellowjackets found themselves in a 20-point hole, trailing 45-25.

It was more of the same in the second half, as the Yellowjackets never were able to get any closer than the 20 points they trailed by entering the half.  The Pointers would build the lead to as high as 40 points, and would cruise to an 85-47 victory.

Brendan Bauer (Eleva, Wis./Gilmanton) was the top scorer for the Yellowjackets, scoring ten points.  He was the only Yellowjacket to reach double figures.  Ben Aalfs (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson) and Bronson Byrne (Chanhassen, Minn./Chaska) scored eight points apiece.  Aalfs, Bauer and Dustin Ritchie (Superior, Wis./Superior Senior) had three rebounds each to lead the Yellowjackets.  Bauer's two assists also led the Yellowjackets.

Dan Tillema had 21 points and Trevor Hass had 20 points to lead the Pointers, who improved to 5-1 on the year.

The Yellowjackets (5-3, 0-1 WIAC) will be at UW-Stout on Wednesday, December 7 at 7:00 p.m.  The game can be heard live locally on 91.3 FM KUWS.  Matt Johnson will have the call.
