Yellowjackets Fall at UW-Eau Claire Holiday Classic

The Yellowjackets opened up the second half of the season Tuesday when they traveled to Eau Claire, Wis. to take part in the UW-Eau Claire Holiday Classic. Facing off against St. Olaf, the Yellowjackets were looking to extend their three game winning streak.

Unfortunately St. Olaf proved to be too much to handle as the Yellowjackets fell 63-50 to snap their winning streak.

The Yellowjackets opened up the game on a Brian Lindblom (Spooner, Wis./Spooner) jumper with 19:14 left to take an early 2-0 lead. St. Olaf answered back by scoring the next five points, but the Yellowjackets managed to tie up the game at 6-6 with 15:29 remaining in the half on a Vid Milenkovic (Zurich, Switzerland/DSB) layup and a Lindblom jumper.

It was at this point St. Olaf took over, going on an 11-0 run over the next four minutes to build a 17-6 lead. The Yellowjackets fought their way back, cutting the St. Olaf lead to 28-23 with 1:13 left in the first half on a Montroy Scott (Fridley, Minn./Columbia Heights) jumper. St. Olaf pushed the lead to 30-23 going into the half, as they hit a pair of free throw with four second remaining.

St. Olaf came out firing on all cylinders in the second half as they pushed their lead to 43-27 with 12:18 remaining. The Yellowjackets managed to cut the lead down to 45-35 with 9:11 remaining on a Zach Schradle (Clayton, Wis./Clayton) 3-pointer. The deficit proved too much to overcome, as St. Olaf held a double digit lead the remainder of the game to defeat the Yellowjackets.

The Yellowjackets were paced by Scott, who finished with 14 points and five rebounds off the bench.

Schradle had another double-double, finishing with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Schradle also lead the Yellowjackets in assists and steals with two apiece. Lindblom added 10 points.

St. Olaf was paced by Justin Pahl, who finished with a game high 24 points. Ben Figini and Robert Tobroxen added 10 points, while Evan O'Dorisio had six points and 10 rebounds.

The Yellowjackets shot 33.9% from the field, going 4-15 from beyond the 3-point arc while hitting 4-6 from the free throw line.

St. Olaf shot 33.3% from the field, going 3-14 from beyond the 3-point arc while hitting 28-34 from the free throw line.

The Yellowjackets committed 15 turnovers. St. Olaf committed eight.

Next up for the Yellowjackets (4-5, 2-1 UMAC) is day two of the UW-Eau Claire Holiday Classic tomorrow Wednesday, December 30 when they take on Coe College. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
