The Yellowjacket men's basketball team was in action Wednesday to take on Coe College in the third place game of the UW-Eau Claire Holiday Classic. Fresh off of a defeat the previous evening at the hands of St. Olaf, the Yellowjackets were looking to right the ship against Coe.

They did just that, as they dominated Coe en route to an 83-63 victory.

The Yellowjackets jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in this matchup thanks to a Brian Lindblom (Spooner, Wis./Spooner) jumper on the opening possession and a pair of buckets by Cade Stackpool (Virginia, Minn./Virginia). Coe stormed back, scoring the next six points to take a 7-6 lead with 16:03 remaining. The Coe lead was short lived, as the Yellowjackets went on a 9-0 lead thanks to 3-pointers from Nate Kalien (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls), Andreas Preisler (Solrod, Denmark/Solrod Gymnasium), and Zach Schradle (Clayton, Wis./Clayton).

This time Coe went on a run, scoring nine of the next 11 points to cut the Yellowjacket lead to 17-16 with 10:39 remaining. This did not phase the Yellowjackets, as they steadily pulled away from Coe over the next seven minutes to take a 36-26 lead on a Schradle layup. The Yellowjackets pushed the lead to 41-30 before the half on a Kalien 3-pointer.

The second half saw the Yellowjackets continue to build on their first half lead. A Montroy Scott (Fridley, Minn./Columbia Heights) 3-poitner with 12:06 remaining put the Yellowjackets up 59-40, and it was smooth sailing from there. The Yellowjackets were able to get many of their reserves valuable varsity playing time in this matchup, as the lead reached 20 points by the final buzzer.

Schradle continued his scorching junior season, finishing with 22 points and 10 rebound for his third double-double in a row, and fourth in the last five games. He also led the Yellowjackets in assists and steals, finishing with four assists and three steals respectively.

Lindblom also had a solid game, finishing with 15 points and nine rebound to just miss his second career double-double. Stackpool finished with 14 points and 6-7 shooting, while Scott finished with 12 points off the bench and Kalien chipped in 10.

Coe was paced by Marshal Shedeck, who finished with 23 points and seven rebounds.  Matt Vonderhaar and Christian Fahey scored 10 points apiece for Coe.

The Yellowjackets shot 44.8% from the field, going 9-18 from beyond the 3-point arc, while hitting 22-26 from the free throw line.

Coe shot 36.7% from the field, going 6-19 from beyond the 3-point arc, while hitting 21-31 from the free throw line.

The Yellowjackets finished with 13 turnovers while Coe had 11.

Next up for the Yellowjackets (5-5, 2-1 UMAC) is a return to conference play when they travel to Morris, Minn. Saturday, January 2 to take on the University of Minnesota Morris. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
