Box Score

The Yellowjacket men's basketball team was in action Saturday afternoon to take on UMAC foe Martin Luther College. After dropping their UMAC opener to Bethany Lutheran College the night before, the Yellowjackets were looking for a much needed win.

With four players scoring in double figures, the Yellowjackets were able to put away the Knights for their first UMAC victory.

The Yellowjackets jumped out to an early 4-0 following a Brian Lindblom (Spooner, Wis./Spooner) layup and two Nate Kalien (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls) free throws. Martin Luther fought their way back, going on an 11-2 run to take an 11-6 lead with 13:38 remaining in the first half.

This time it was the Yellowjackets turn to fight their way back, as they went on an 11-3 run to take a 17-14 lead with 8:58 remaining in the half. Martin Luther retook the lead, but it was short lived, as the Yellowjackets went into the half with a 37-27 lead.

The opening five minutes of the second half saw the Yellowjackets push their lead to 21 following a Montroy Scott (Fridley, Minn./Columbia Heights) layup. Martin Luther fought back and cut the Yellowjacket lead to 58-51. The Yellowjackets mounted another run, as they were able to keep the Knights at arm's length the rest of the game en route to an 87-67 victory.

Kalien led all scorers in this matchup, as he broke out of his shooting slump to score 21 points on 6-12 shooting.

Scott finished with 20 points, seven rebound, three assists, and three steals. Vid Milenkovic (Zurich, Switzerland/DSB) added 16 points and six rebounds off the bench for the Yellowjackets.

Schradle finished with 15 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, and three blocks as he completed his seventh career double double.

Martin Luther was paced by Todd Brassow and Josh Rathje, who each finished with 20 points. Michael Paulsen was the only other Knight in double figures, finishing with 16 points and five assists.

The Yellowjackets shot 51.7% from the field, going 6-15 from beyond the 3-point arc, while going 18-31 from the free throw line.

Martin Luther shot 40.6% from the field, hitting 6-13 from beyond the 3-point arc, while going 9-12 from the free throw line.

The Yellowjackets committed 17 turnovers, while the Knights committed 12.

The Yellowjackets (2-4, 1-1 UMAC) will be back at home Friday, December 11 when they take on Finlandia University. Game time from Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium is set for 5:30 p.m.
