Yellowjackets Continue Winning Ways

Ryan Wisdom scored three goals against Northland Tuesday.

Yellowjackets 6, Northland 0

They say that winning comes in bunches. Following their first loss of the season at the hands of Luther the Yellowjacket men reeled off five straight wins before falling to cross-bridge rival St. Scholastica last Wednesday. 

Following that heartbreaking loss, the Yellowjackets found themselves on another winning streak, currently sitting at three games and counting after they pummeled the Lumberjacks of Northland College 6-0 Tuesday afternoon at the Yellowjacket Soccer Complex.

The Yellowjackets put the hammer down from the opening kickoff, firing off eight shots before Northland managed their first. The Yellowjackets went back on the attack following the Lumberjacks lone shot, sending shot after shot toward Northland goalkeeper Colton Schreyer.

The onslaught finally proved fruitful for the Yellowjackets when Ryan Wisdom (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) scored his third goal of the season off of a James Menzies (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) cross in the 24th minute to make it 1-0. Twenty seconds later Jon Bucklew (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) made it 2-0 Yellowjackets when he found the back of the net off of a John Little (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) feed. Bucklew has now scored a goal in each of the last three matches.

It looked as though the Yellowjackets would be going into the half leading 2-0, but Silvio Brych (Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil/Elias Moreira) had other plans. With less than 30 seconds left before halftime Brych found the back of the net for his second goal of the season, and just like that the Yellowjackets went into the break leading 3-0.

The Yellowjackets wasted no time building on their lead in the second half. Wisdom scored his second goal of the match off of a Buckew feed to make it 4-0 Yellowjackets 30 seconds into the half. Wisdom then completed the hat trick by scoring his third goal of the match at 55:05 to give the Yellowjackets a 5-0 lead. The Yellowjackets capped off the scoring with a goal at 81:42 when Hugo Roos (Halmstad, Sweden/Aspero Idrottsgymnasium) beat the goalkeeper off of an Erik Boese (New Berlin, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) corner kick.

Ben Nelson (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) shut out the Lumberjacks in his first collegiate start, making five saves. This was Nelson's first win as a Yellowjacket and the third time he has been part of a shutout.
Schreyer took the loss, giving up six goals while making 13 saves.

The Yellowjackets outshot the Lumberjacks 48-to-8, including 19-to-5 shots-on-goal.

The Yellowjackets (9-2-0, 3-1-0 UMAC) go on the road Saturday when the take on Crown College. The match is set to get underway at 2:00 p.m.
