Box Score Yellowjackets 6, UW-Stout 3Â
The Yellowjacket men's hockey team was back in action Friday night when they faced off against WIAC foe UW-Stout. These same two teams had faced each other in a non-conference matchup a week prior in a game the Yellowjackets won 6-2.
The Yellowjackets really have Stouts number, as they scored two goals in each period to defeat the Blue Devils 6-3.
The scoring started early in this one for the Yellowjackets, as
Jordan Neduzak (Morden, Manitoba/Morden Collegiate Institute) netted his sixth goal of the season 4:36 into the game. Ian Eckund and
Anton Svensson (Sodertalje, Sweden/Igelstavikens Gymnasium) had the assists on the even strength goal.
Less than three minutes later the Yellowjacket lead grew to 2-0 on
Cal Miska (Stacy, Minn./Centennial)'s second goal of the season.
Nik Kosman (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial) and
Reed Murray (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial) had the assists on the even strength tally.
Miska netted his second of the game, and third of the season, at the 4:44 mark of the second to put the Yellowjackets up 3-0.
David Kenney (St. Cloud, Minn./Tech) and
Beau Browning (Queen Creek, Ariz./Chandler) had the assists on the goal. The assist marked Browning's first career collegiate point.
Anton Svensson (Sodertalje, Sweden/Igelstavikens Gymnasium) decided to get in on the scoring fiesta, netting his 11th goal of the season at 15:01 in the second to put the Yellowjackets up 4-0. Neduzak and Ecklund had the assists on the goal.
Stout tried to make things interesting in the third period as they scored a goal at 4:27 and 11:10 to cut the Yellowjacket lead to 4-2. Lack of discipline stifled any chance for a Blue Devil comeback in this one as Shayne McLaughlin took a minor penalty at the 12:36 mark for a face-off violation, then Riley Colvard took a 5 minute major for tripping to put the Yellowjackets on a 5-on-3 power play.
The Yellowjackets took full advantage of the 5-on-3 opportunity when Ecklund netted his ninth of the season. Svensson and Neduzak had the assists on the power play goal.
Still holding a 5-on-4 advantage, the Yellowjackets made it 6-2 on Neduzak's second goal of the game at the 15:37 mark of the third. Svensson and
Matt Audette (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln) had the assists on the goal.
Stout scored at the 18:40 mark of the third to cap off the scoring, but by the time the final horn sounded, the Yellowjackets were on a two game winning streak.
Cory Simons (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) got the start in goal for the Yellowjackets, allowing three goals while making 29 saves. Simons moves to 4-2-0 on the season.
Nick Schmit got the start in goal for the Blue Devils, allowing four goals while making 29 saves in two periods before being pulled for Spencer Viele, who allowed two goals while making 12 saves in the third. Schmit took the loss and moves to 3-2-2 on the season.
The game got a little chippy at the end, with the Yellowjackets taking three penalties for six minutes and the Blue Devils taking five penalties for 13 minutes. On the power play, the Yellowjackets were two for six, while the Blue Devils were two for three.
