The Yellowjacket men's hockey team was in action Friday night facing off at home against non-conference foe Concordia-Moorhead. The Yellowjackets were looking to build off of the momentum they had gained following their 6-2 victory over Finlandia and come away with a win over the Cobbers.

Unfortunately for the Yellowjackets, Concordia-Moorhead dominated this matchup from the get-go, as they fell 5-1.

The Cobbers jumped on the board early, scoring 4:29 into the game on a bad-angle shot from Zach Doerring, Jon Grebosky had the assist on the even strength goal. The Yellowjackets defense tightened up following the early tally, holding the Cobbers scorless the rest of the period to go into the first intermission down 1-0.

The second period saw the floodgates open, as Concordia-Moorhead scored three times to take control of this matchup. The first came 4:26 into the period when Mario Bianchi was able to beat Yellowjacket goaltender Ethan Wood (Jasper, Alberta/Paul Kane) to make it 2-0 Cobbers. Less than two minutes later, at the 6:07 mark of the second, Jordan Christianson made it 3-0 Cobbers. The score was pushed to 4-0 Cobbers at the 11:27 mark of the period when Tucker Coborn's shot found its way past Wood.

The fourth goal marked the end of the night for Wood, as he finished the night with four goals allowed and 16 saves in 31:27 of playing time. Cory Simons (Crystal Lake, Ill./Prairie Ridge) came on to replace him.

The Yellowjackets looked as though they had found some life to open the third when Eric Shand (San Dimas, Calif./San Dimas) fired a slap shot past the Concordia-Moorhead goalie for his sixth goal of the season. The excitement was short lived however, as the Cobbers Jon Grebosky beat Simons to give the Cobbers a 5-1 lead that they would hold the remainder of the game.

Wood, who started in goal for the Yellowjackets, took the loss to fall to 1-4-0 on the season. Simons allowed one goal while making nine saves after relieving Wood for the final 28:33 of the game.

Alex Reichle started in goal for the Cobbers, allowing one goal while making 37 saves.

The Yellowjackets took four penalties for 11 minutes. The Cobbers took five penalties for 10 minutes.

The Yellowjackets went 0-4 on the power play. Concordia-Moorhead also went 0-4 on the power play.

Next up for the Yellowjackets (4-9-2, 0-2-0 WIAC) is a non-conference match up Saturday, January 9 against Saint John's University. Game time from Wessman Arena is set for 5:00 p.m. The game can be heard live on 91.3 FM.
