Rodriguez tallies three assists and Yellowjackets roll past Crown at home

Four different players scored a goal, and senior midfielder Gio Rodriguez (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Los Osos H.S.) assisted on three of them as the University of Wisconsin Superior rolled to a 4-0 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference victory over Crown College on Saturday afternoon at the Yellowjacket Soccer Complex.

UW-Superior (3-6-0, 3-0-0 UMAC) extended its conference unbeaten streak while scoring two goals in each half and out-shooting Crown (2-8-1, 2-3-0 UMAC) 25-3 including 14-2 for shots on goal. Sophomore Danny Kearns (Greenock, Scotland/Clydeview Academy) got the scoring started just 5:55 into the match, chipping a high-arcing shot over the goalie after corraling a pass from Rodriguez. The score would remain tight until the 34:07 mark of the game when freshman Eric Watson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Hammarskjold H.S.) took a booming shot form 30 yards out, falling down as he scored the fourth goal of his season with an assist from senior midfielder Ryan Linsmayer (Dresser, Wis./Osceola).

Senior goalkeeper Ben Wilhelm (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area H.S.) picked up the victory between the pipes, making one save while playing the first 63:12 of action for UW-Superior. Sophomore Josh Herd (Hamilton, Scotland/Calderside Academy) spelled him the rest of the wave, also making a save for the Yellowjackets. Sophomore midfielder Mualigbe Keita (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Prairie Seeds Academy) scored his first of the year as Rodriguez picked up his second assist of the day just 4:33 into the second half.  Junior forward Jon Bucklew (Somerset, Wis./Somerset H.S.) tacked on an insurance score and another Rodriguez assist in the 56th minute.
