The University of Wisconsin Superior started slow against the University of Minnestoa Morris and ran out of time as the Cougars swept the Yellowjackets 3-0 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
UW-Superior (5-15, 1-2 UMAC) took a 25-16 defeat in the first set after hitting .125 with just nine kills but improved its defense in the final two sets, holding UM-Morris (7-9, 2-0 UMAC) to .161 and .174 hitting percentages in games two and three but could not secure the run needed to push ahead, falling 25-22 and 25-21 for the sweeping victory by the Cougars.

Brylee Colligan (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji H.S.) and senior right-side hitter
Alexis Landherr (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti H.S.) each had 11 kills, and freshman middle hitter
Ashley Runck (Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley H.S.) had six blocks in the match for UW-Superior's offensive highlights. Sophomore setter
Emily VerWay (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley H.S.) continued to impress with 22 assists, 20 digs, and four blocks of her own. UM-Morris had three different players with at least nine kills and five with at least five. The Cougars served better with eight aces on the day and had zero reception errors.

UW-Superior will cross the bridge on Wednesday afternoon for a rematch against the College of St. Scholastica. The Saintsknocked off the Yellowjackets 3-0 at last month's UMAC Preview on Sept. 17, so UWS will have revenge on its mind. Opening serve is set for 7:00 p.m. in Duluth.
