Box Score The University of Wisconsin Superior opened the first set on an 8-0 run against border rival and Upper Midwest Athletic Conference foe the College of St. Scholastica, but momentum shifted as the match went on with the Saints capitalizing on a several runs of their own to take a 3-1 victory over the Yellowjackets in Wednesday's Bridge Battle in Duluth.
Despite taking the aforementioned first set lead, UW-Superior (5-16, 1-3 UMAC) saw the Saints inch closer, eventually pulling within 10-7, but another five-point run pushed the Yellowjackets ahead as they would hold on for a 25-21 game one victory. CSS opened up an early lead in game two, 6-1, before the Yellowjackets scored 5-of-6 points to pull back within one. The two teams traded points, but UWS pulled even at 17-all and then 18-18 but three-straight scores for the Saints would propel the home team to a 25-22 second set victory.
The momentum clearly shifted in favor of St. Scholastica in game three as, after the Yellowjackets had a 3-2 lead, the Saints scored four straight and never looked back, rolling to a 25-16 victory. The maintained that momentum early in game four, taking a 5-0 lead, but UW-Superior scraped back within 8-5. CSS then scored 11-of-12 points to pull away and eventually held on for a 25-13 set and 3-1 match victory.
The Yellowjackets hit just .083 as a team with 28 errors in the match, but senior right-side hitter
Alexis Landherr (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti H.S.) collected 13 kills to lead the way for UWS. First-year outside hitter
Anna Ribich (Biwabik, Minn./Mesabi East H.S.) had the first double-digit kill performance of her career with 10 while hitting .286 to lead the Yellowjackets. Sophomore setter
Emily VerWay (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley H.S.) had 33 assists and 14 digs and played a role in three blocks as UW-Superior totalled nine in the game. Sophomore setter
Kaila Meyer (Brownsdale, Minn./Hayfield H.S.) had 15 digs to lead the Yellowjackets.
Three Saints split the attacking duties with each having at least 13 kills but Nikki Kienzle led all attackers with 14 on the night. St. Scholastica's setting duo of Emily Kessler and Espi Autvold collected 49 assists, while Alex Barsody had a match-high 21 digs for the Saints.

UW-Superior will look to bounce back at home next time out when the Yellowjackets host Crown College on Saturday afternoon at Mortorelli Gym. UWS defeated Crown 3-0 on the road earlier this season. Opening serve is set for 3:00 p.m. with a varsity reserve match slated for 1:00 p.m.
