The University of Wisconsin Superior played another tight defensive game but could not get the break-through score, as the team fell 1-0 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference action against Martin Luther College on Saturday afternoon at the Yellowjacket Soccer Complex.
The team celebrated "Dogtoberfest" in Superior with four-legged fans and their owners on-hand, but UW-Superior (1-11-0, 1-5-0) was prevented any further celebration as the Knights' Julia Barthels made a pair of saves to shut out the Yellowjackets. Martin Luther (4-11-0, 3-4-0 UMAC) got on the board when Jenna Maurer netted her 13th goal of the season, an unassisted tally at the 33:09 mark of the match-up.
UWS held Maurer to just three shots on goal on the day, and junior goalkeeper
Bailey Henderson (Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul H.S.) made six saves to keep her team in the match. Sophomore midfielder
Kelli Graham (Middleville, Mich./Thornapple Kellogg H.S.) had two shots on goal to lead the Yellowjackets. Martin Luther out-shot UW-Superior 14-5 on the afternoon.
