Senior midfielder
Gio Rodriguez (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Los Osos H.S.) tallied a pair of scores, each within the opening ten minutes of the contest, as the University of Wisconsin Superior held on a for 2-0 non-conference victory on the road against Saint John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota on Sunday afternoon.
Rodriguez got the scoring started for UW-Superior (7-7-0) at the 4:58 mark of the match. Sophomore defender
Hugo Roos (Halmstad, Sweden/Aspero Idrottsgymnasium) took a free kick, which junior midfielder
Reyman Solis (Kirkland, Ill./Huntley H.S.) fed across the box to Rodriguez to break the scoring open in the early going. He tacked on his second tally of the afternoon just three short minutes later, taking a pass from senior midfielder
Ryan Linsmayer (Dresser, Wis./Osceola) and knocking it off the keeper's hands to trickle into the net. The two early scores would prove to be enough as the teams played to a draw the rest of the way. Each team had ten shots in the first half, while Saint John's (5-6-3) had a slight advantage, 8-5, after the break.
Senior goalkeeper
Ben Wilhelm (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area H.S.) made seven saves to preserve his clean sheet, while Payton Spencer had five for the Johnnies. Rodriguez led the Yellowjackets with four shots on the afternoon while Dylan Lehr had six, five of which he directed on-net, for Saint John's.
