The offense continues to roll for the University of Wisconsin Superior: Junior
Jon Bucklew (Somerset, Wis./Somerset H.S.) and freshman
Eric Watson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Hammarskjold H.S.) each scored a hat trick while Bucklew added a fourth score, and the Yellowjackets rolled to a 9-0 victory over Northland College in non-conference action at the Yellowjacket Soccer Complex in Superior, Wisconsin.
UW-Superior (8-7-0) finally broke back above .500 for the first time this season after starting the season 0-6-0 while scoring just three goals in that stretch. Fittingly, the Yellowjackets exploded with their highest scoring output of the season. Bucklew got the scoring started against Northland (0-14-0), netting a penalty kick try past the diving 'keeper. He had a hat trick by halftime as he and Watson went back-and-forth tacking onto the UWS lead until the Yellowjackets were up 5-0 at halftime. Watson added an assist on Bucklew's second score of the game, while "Bucky" did the same for Watson. Together, the duo accounted for seven goals and 16 points on the afternoon.
Senior forward
Ryan Wisdom (Hayward, Wis./Hayward) also had a multiple point day, with assists on three-straight goals for the Yellowjackets. Sophomore forward
Joao Moreira (Teresopolis, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Colegio Sao Paulo) (1) and sophomore midfielder
Mualigbe Keita (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Prairie Seeds Academy) (3) also tacked on a goal. Senior
Ben Wilhelm (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area H.S.) picked up the victory between the pipes without needing to make a save in the opening half. He was spelled by sophomore
Josh Herd (Hamilton, Scotland/Calderside Academy) at the break, who made two saves in the second half to maintain the shutout for the UW-Superior defense. Overall, the Yellowjackets out-shot the LumberJacks 32-6 including 15-2 in on-target attempts. Northland's Thomas Whiting made six saves while allowing nine scores.
