The University of Wisconsin Superior will be on the outside looking in when the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference postseason begins next month, as the Yellowjackets fell in straight sets against Bethany Lutheran College on Saturday afternoon in Mankato.
UW-Superior (7-21) falls out of tournament contention after moving to 2-5 in UMAC play. Bethany Lutheran (8-15, 3-4 UMAC) gained the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Yellowjackets necessary to knock UWS out of the playoff picture. The Vikings got stronger as the match went on, winning the games in order: 24-22, 25-15, and 25-11. Bethany made just one error, hitting .542 in the decisive third set, while they held UW-Superior to a match-low (-.115) hitting percentage in game two.
Megan Rutt (14) and Kristen Mielke (11) led both teams in kills, while senior right-side hitter
Alexis Landherr (Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti H.S.) had eight to go with two blocks to lead the Yellowjackets. Sophomore setter
Emily VerWay (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley H.S.) had 21 assists and added a pair of blocks of her own. Jasmine Carlson had 36 assists for the Vikings, while Anna Nelson had a match-high 15 digs for BLC.

UW-Superior will be on the road on Monday afternoon for its final non-conference match-up of the season. The Yellowjackets take on Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. Opening serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
