UW-Superior can't slow Marian on the road Saturday

Marian University scored five goals before the midpoint of the game, knocking off the University of Wisconsin Superior by a final score of 6-1 as the teams traded defensive efforts through the final period and a half on Saturday night in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.

Gianni Mangone had a pair of goals and Hunter Stewart added four points for Marian (2-6) as the Sabres were in full control throughout much of the contest. Mangone scored his first of the night just 1:25 into the game, and at the 6:37 mark, UW-Superior (3-5-0) trailed by a pair when Nick Monfils netted Marian's second goal. Senior forward Anton Svensson (Sodertalje, Sweden/Igelstavikens Gymnasium) got the Yellowjackets on the board at the 16:27 mark of the first period, assisted by senior Jordan Neduzak (Morden, Man./Morden Collegiate Institute) and freshman Bruno Birzitis (Riga, Latvia/Riga Distance Education Secondary). After taking a 2-1 lead to the locker room, Mangone would score the first goal of the second period, an unassisted tally at 4:48. Derek Thorogood put the Sabres up by three at 9:18 with an assisted from Stewart, and Cole McCaig put Marian up but four just before the midway point of the second at 9:55.

Stewart tacked on Marian's sixth goal in the third period, assisted by Thorogood and Braden Crone. Junior Ethan Wood (Jasper, Alberta/Paul Kane H.S.) got the start between the pipes for the Yellowjackets, making 18 saves in the first 29:55. Junior Bryce Fink (Tacoma, Wash./Keystone H.S.) stopped 14 pucks over the final 30:05. Mike Baldwin made 20 saves for the Sabres in picking up the win.
