The University of Wisconsin Superior and the University of St. Thomas went out of their way to play a non-conference neutral site game in Willmar, Minnesota - two hours off campus for the Tommies and nearly four for the Yellowjackets, and a pair of sophomores tallied early goals to lift UW-Superior (3-1-0) to a 2-1 victory over St. Thomas on Saturday night.
Sophomore
Jared Dedenbach (Warren, Mich./Fargo South H.S.) followed up his Thursday night hat trick with his fourth goal of the year to get the scoring started against the Tommies, getting assisted by sophomores
Viktor Sallhag (Vasteras, Sweden/Wenströmska Gymnasium) and
Nik Kosman (Calgary, Alta./Centennial H.S.) just 1:32 into the first period. Sallhag followed that up with his first of the year, assisted by another second-year skater,
Daniel Litchke (Superior, Wis./Superior H.S.) just before the six-minute mark at 5:59 of the first. That was all the scoring that UWS would need as the Yellowjackets held on the rest of the way despite St. Thomas (1-2-1) getting a goal from Thomas Barnes at 17:29 of the second.
A junior got the victory in goal for UW-Superior as
Ethan Wood (Jasper, Alberta/Paul Kane H.S.) made 37 saves, while Devin Tappenden made 17 saves for the Tommies. St. Thomas finished 0-for-6 on the powerplay with eight shots while the Yellowjackets 0-for-3 with a pair of shots with the extra man.
