Fourth-ranked UW-River Falls shuts out UW-Superior on Friday night

The University of Wisconsin Superior could not slow the high-scoring offense of the No. 4-ranked University of Wisconsin-River Falls in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday night in River Falls.

UW-Superior (4-6-0, 1-2-0 WIAC) held close to No. 4 UW-River Falls (7-1-0, 2-1-0 WIAC), trailing just 1-0 after the first period, but a three-goal second and five-goal third pushed the Falcons over the top. UWRF scored twice in the final 45 seconds to extend its lead to out to the final margin. Dani Sibley had a hat trick for the Falcons, while Carly Moran had a two goals and an assist.

River Falls finished 2-for-3 on the powerplay while the Yellowjackets were 0-for-3. Junior forward Mikayla Goodin (Andover, Minn./Andover H.S.) had four shots to lead UW-Superior. Kim Kobar (The Pas, Man./Margaret Barbour Collegiate) made 36 saves for the Yellowjackets in the first before being relieved  by Sky Brown (Lenore, Man./Virden Collegiate Institute) for the final 16:15 of the game. Angie Hall had 13 saves for the Falcons.

UW-Superior will exit conference play to close out the season's first half next weekend against bridge rival the College of St. Scholastica. The two teams will open a home-and-home series in Duluth on Friday night with the opening puck drop set for 7:00 p.m.
