UMAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Men's Basketball (2-10, 1-4 UMAC)
- UW-Superior picked up a much-needed victory over Martin Luther College last time out, defeating the Knights 93-73 on the road. Freshman forward
Rafael Monteiro (São Paulo, Brazil/Santa Marcelina College) and junior guard
Shaq Coleman (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East H.S.) lead the Yellowjackets offensively, averaging 16.0 and 14.7 points per game, respectively. UWS will close out the 2016 calendar year at Bethel University on Friday night. The Royals will prove a tough challenge for the Yellowjackets at 7-1 on the regular season after defeating NCAA II Concordia University, St. Paul last time out. Next Tuesday, UW-Superior will compete in exhibition action in the bridge battle with the University of Minnesota Duluth. The Bulldogs are 1-9 on the year with Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action this weekend before the Yellowjackets arrive in Duluth.
Women's Basketball (8-3, 5-0 UMAC)
- UW-Superior will be at home this week for a pair of games, riding a seven-game winning streak after defeating Martin Luther 86-80 last time out. The Yellowjackets are led by
Hailey Kontny (Superior, Wis./Superior H.S.) and sophomore forward
Hannah Norlin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield H.S.) who are both averaging 14.0 points per game on the year. The action begins Thursday as Alverno College arrives in town for an afternoon tilt. The Inferno is 2-6 on the year having not played since December 10. Friday night, St. Catherine University will arrive in Duluth coming off back-to-back buzzer-beating victories earlier this month. UWS hits the road Tuesday for an exhibition match-up with bridge foe Minnesota Duluth. The Bulldogs are 5-4 on the year with a pair of contests at Romano Gym this weekend before the Yellowjackets cross the bridge to close out their homestand.
Men's Hockey (4-9-1, 0-2-0 WIAC)
- The Yellowjackets will return to action in January. UW-Superior hits the road to take on a pair of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes the weekend of January 6-7. The Yellowjackets will face the Cobbers of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6.
Women's Hockey (5-7-0, 1-2-0 WIAC)
- UW-Superior will be off until the calendar turns to 2017. The Yellowjackets take on the South Korean National Team in an exhibition contest at Wessman Arena at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6. That weekend, the team will travel to Finlandia for a two-game set with the Lions.
Men's and Women's Track & Field
- UW-Superior will be back in action next month as the Yellowjackets head to Bemidji, Minnesota on Saturday, Jan. 14 for Bemidji State University's Super 8 meet.
