The University of Wisconsin Superior battled 'ugly' against the top dogs in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on Saturday night, but the fourth-ranked University of Wisconsin Stevens Point spoiled the Yellowjackets' "Ugly Sweater" celebration with a 4-0 defeat of the home team at Wessman Arena.
The Yellowjackets and Pointers played even through the first 33 minutes of action before the offense of No. 4 UW-Stevens Point (8-2-1, 2-0-0 WIAC) took control. Jacob Barber netted the first score of the game at 13:38 of the second, getting an assist from Lawrence Cornellier. UW-Superior (4-8-0, 0-2-0 WIAC) gave up a penalty just nine seconds later, and the Pointers made good on the powerplay opportunity as Ryan Bittner ripped a shot from the point at 15:17, getting an assist from Trace Strahle.
After being out-shot 15-3 in the first period, the Yellowjackets had 19 through the final two period compared to 22 for Stevens Point. Senior defender
Eric Shand (San Dimas, Calif./San Dimas H.S.) led UWS with five chances. No. 4 UWSP added to its lead at 2:03 of the third with a second even-strength score on the day, this time by Eliot Grauer with an assist from Ethan Strong. The Pointer powerplay unit would finish 2-for-7 on the day, adding a second score with the man advantage at 12:30 of the third as Jono Davis scored assisted by Barber and Karty. UWS finished 0-for-4 with the skater advantage.
Junior goaltender
Bryce Fink (Tacoma, Wash./Keystone H.S.) made 33 saves for the Yellowjackets. Max Milosek stopped all 22 shots that he faced for Stevens Point.

UW-Superior will exit conference play and wrap up the season's first half next weekend when the Yellowjackets travel to take on the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) for a series beginning Friday. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
