The University of Wisconsin Superior could not maintain momentum to gain the upper hand on in-state rival the University of Wisconsin-River Falls (R.V.) as the Yellowjackets fell 92-63 to the Falcons on Tuesday night on the road in River Falls.
UW-Superior (1-7) got 15 points and eight rebounds from freshman forward
Rafael Monteiro (São Paulo, Brazil/Santa Marcelina College), while sophomore guard
Montroy Scott (Fridley, Minn./Columbia Heights H.S.) and junior guard
Shaq Coleman (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East H.S.) contributed 14 and 10 points, respectively, on the night. The Yellowjackets could not slow down the UW-River Falls (R.V., 7-1) offense as five different Falcons reached double figures on the day, led by a 20-point effort in just 24 minutes from Alex Herink.
An early 11-point run gave UW-River Falls all the momentum as the Falcons pushed the lead out to 24-13 with 7:08 remaining in the first period. The home team took a 10-point lead to the locker room at halftime, but the Yellowjackets would trim the margin down to just two at 40-38 with two minutes away in the second half. Another run, this time 11-of-13 points for UW-River Falls proved the difference as the Falcons never looked back, pushing the lead out to the eventual margin of victory.
