The struggle to find offense continued for the University of Wisconsin Superior on day one of its two-day road trip through the Twin Cities as Hamline University knocked off the Yellowjackets 2-0 at Paterson Field in St. Paul, Minnesota on Saturday afternoon.
UW-Superior (0-5-0) has been shut out in 4-of-5 games to start the season, but put the pressure on the Pipers, being out-shot just 16-13 in the game. The two teams went to the locker room scoreless at the half, Hamline (6-1-0) with four shots on goal to the Yellowjackets' three. Sophomore goalkeeper
Josh Herd (Hamilton, Scotland/Calderside Academy) turned the Pipers away eight times on the day, while Hamline's Dean Isaacson made five saves to shut out UW-Superior.
Just eight minutes into the second half, Hamline broke the scoreless tie as Adam King took a crossing pass from Ben Pietsch and snuck it past the Yellowjacket defense. As the clock ticked down to the 70-minute mark, the Pipers made good on a corner king, one of five in the match, thanks to Ben Sorenson redirecting a rebound to put Hamline up 2-0. Freshman
Eric Watson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Hammarskjold H.S.) had three shots to lead UWS, while senior
Gio Rodriguez (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Los Osos H.S.) and sophomore
Danny Kearns (Greenock, Scotland/Clydeview Academy) each had a pair of shots on goal.
