The University of Wisconsin Superior has had little problem scoring first against its Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival, but the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point once again came from behind and knocked off the Yellowjackets 3-1 as the two teams returned to conference play in Stevens Point, Wisconsin on Tuesday evening.
Much like the 2-1 victory for the Pointers earlier this season on Nov. 19, UW-Superior (7-9-0, 1-3-0 WIAC) got on the board on the powerplay in the first period to take an early lead. This time, junior
Emily Heid (Elk River, Minn./Elk River H.S.) ripped her third score of the season, assisted by junior
Abby Constant-Bercier (The Pas, Man.) and freshman
Hannah Currin (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy H.S.) with the skater advantage. The Yellowjackets would take the 1-0 score to the locker room for the first intermission, but UW-Stevens Point (9-5-2, 2-1-0 WIAC) would score three unanswered, including twice in the second period, to go up 2-0 on UWS in the season series.
Cara Lemirande and Ellie Punnett each had a goal and two assists for the Pointers, while Maddie Schlossmacher had a goal and an assist on the night. Punnett's score, the eventual game-winner which came just before the end of the second period at 19:33 came on the powerplay as each team would finished 1-for-3 with the 5-on-4 advantage. Senior
Kim Kobar (The Pas, Man./Margaret Barbour Collegiate) made 22 saves for the Yellowjackets, while UW-Superior peppered Sydney Conley with 22 shots of their own, with the Pointers' goaltender stopping 21 of them.
