The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series is evened up heading to a rubber match at Wessman Arena on Saturday afternoon after the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (R.V.) scored three powerplay goals to up-end the University of Wisconsin Superior 4-1 on Friday night in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The Yellowjackets had defeated the Blugolds on the road earlier this season, 3-1 on November 18, but UW-Superior (7-10-0, 1-4-0 WIAC) could not rebound from an early deficit on Friday night and will need to wrap up a season series victory on Saturday over UW-Eau Claire (RV, 13-5-1, 2-1-0 WIAC) on its home ice Saturday.
The Blugolds scored on the powerplay in each period, with Monica Sjodin putting UWEC up at 9:23 of the second with an unassisted tally with the skater advantage. The home team would add to its lead just 52 seconds later at even strength with Elizabeth Bauer scoring yet another unassisted tally. Senior forward
Hailey Adair (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park H.S.) got the Yellowjackets on the board with her fourth of the season at 14:30 of the first, assisted by freshman
Hannah Currin (Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy H.S.). UWS would get no closer as Bauer added her second of the day at 15:09 of the second period on the powerplay. Eau Claire tacked on a third powerplay score in the third with Claudia Gagnon scoring at 6:27 of the third. The Blugolds finished 3-for-4 with the skater advantage while UW-Superior was 0-for-2 on the powerplay.
Senior
Kim Kobar (The Pas, Man./Margaret Barbour Collegiate) made 23 saves for the Yellowjackets, while Erin Connolly stopped 16 to pick up the victory for UW-Eau Claire.
