The University of Wisconsin Superior shot the lights out of Mortorelli Gym on Saturday afternoon, but a first half lead could not hold up against the top team in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference as the University of Northwestern knocked down a buzzer-beating shot to complete a comeback against the Yellowjackets, 83-81.
After shooting 69.0 percent in the first half, UW-Superior (5-13, 4-6 UMAC) cooled off but still shot 56.1 percent for the game (32-of-57). That was enough of an opening for Northwestern as the Eagles would shoot 66.7 percent in the second half to finish the game shooting 57.1 percent (32-of-56), knocking down 11 three-pointers on the day. Northwestern came back from an 11-point deficit at 52-41 with 16:09 remaining in the second half to knot the game up with 2:44 remaining at 77-all. After a timeout by the Eagles with just six seconds remaining, Cody Sprenger knocked down a score at the buzzer to finish with a game-high 25 points and put Northwestern up 83-81.
