The University of Wisconsin Superior took an early lead but could not hang on as Finlandia University made a season sweep of the Yellowjackets with an 81-76 victory by the Lions on Friday night in Hancock, Michigan.
UW-Superior (5-14) was hot out of the gates, staking a nine-point lead at 16-7 just 4:29 into the game. Finlandia (4-13) out-scored the Yellowjackets 28-10 over the next 13 minutes of play, claiming a nine-point lead of their own. UWS pulled even at 41-41 early in the second half, but the Lions reclaimed their lead and then did enough down the stretch, hitting 10-of-15 free throw attempts in the second half to hold the Yellowjackets at bay.
Sophomore
Montroy Scott (Fridley, Minn./Columbia Heights H.S.) had 21 points to lead UW-Superior. The Yellowjackets shot 42.0 percent as team (29-of-69) and actually knocked down 10 three-pointers in the game. Marcus Geralds had 29 points and 13 rebounds for Finlandia, while the Lions knocked down 29-of-64 (45.3 percent) with six three's and a 17-for-29 combined effort at the free throw line compared to UW-Superior, which finished just 8-for-14 at the free throw line.

UW-Superior will return to Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play (4-6) on Saturday afternoon as the Yellowjackets travel to Northland College. Opening tip is set for 5:00 p.m. following the women's contest in Ashland, Wisconsin.
