The University of Wisconsin Superior continued the strong play it began the week with on Tuesday as the Yellowjackets rode a hat trick by senior
Anton Svensson (Sodertalje, Sweden/Igelstavikens Gymnasium) to knock off the University of Wisconsin-Stout by a 4-2 score on Friday night in Menomonie, Wisconsin.
.
UW-Superior (7-12-1, 1-2-0 WIAC) got the scoring started early in the first period, scoring just moments after a Blue Devils powerplay with senior
Jordan Neduzak (Morden, Man./Morden Collegiate Institute) netting his ninth of the year assisted by
Tanner Skaja (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech H.S.) at 6:48 of the opening frame. The Yellowjackets weren't done there as Svensson tacked on to the lead at 12:13 of the period with his ninth of the season as well. UW-Stout (10-9-2, 2-2-0 WIAC) got on the board late in the second period when Mathias Ahman scored his third of the season, assisted by Justin Moody at 15:41 for the only goal of the period. Despite UWS holding onto its 2-1 lead at the second intermission, the Blue Devils were credited with the final 19 shots on goal of the period to take a 30-13 lead in the category.
UW-Stout rode that momentum into the third period, with Riley Colvard scoring to draw the Blue Devils even at 3:18, getting assisted from Colton Brausen and Adam Kresl. The tie score sparked the Yellowjacket offense as they out-shot Stout in the third period 15-8. Just seconds after the Blue Devils killed off a penalty, Svensson would score his second of the day, getting an assist from senior
Matt Audette (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln H.S.). UW-Stout pulled its goalie for the final 18:42, and Svensson would tack on his third of the day against the empty net, getting an assist from senior
Eric Shand (San Dimas, Calif./San Dimas H.S.).
