UW-Superior settles for WIAC weekend split falling to No. 6 UW-Eau Claire

After a gritty win on Friday night, the University of Wisconsin Superior could not secure two in a row as the sixth-ranked University of Wisconsin Eau Claire defeated the Yellowjackets 7-1 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday night in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

The Blugolds scored at least twice in every period, taking a 3-0 lead in the second before UW-Superior (7-13-1, 1-3-0 WIAC) got on the board for the first time with a powerplay score by freshman Tanner Skaja (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech H.S.) at 13:29 of the second period. He got an assist from senior Eric Shand (San Dimas, Calif./San Dimas H.S.). Patrick Moore had a pair of goals for UW-Eau Claire (15-5-3, 4-2-0 WIAC) while also adding an assist on his night. The Blugolds scored three times on their own powerplay, while out-shooting the Yellowjackets 41-20 on the night. The two teams combined for 27 penalties totaling 102 minutes, with UW-Eau Claire finishing 3-for-4 with the skater advantage while UWS went 1-for-3 on its powerplay chances.

Junior Kyle Miller (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake H.S.) made 34 saves for the Yellowjackets, while Jay Deso stopped 19 pucks for the Blugolds. Skaja had four shots on goal to lead UW-Superior in that category. Adam Knochenmus had a game-high six shots in addition to scoring a goal and three assists for UW-Eau Claire.
