All five starters and six players total reached double digits as the University of Wisconsin Superior held off a hot-shooting Finlandia University for an 87-81 victory on Friday evening in Hancock, Michigan.
UW-Superior (15-4) shot 50.7 percent as a team and needed every bit of it as the Yellowjackets trailed by 10 early in the second quarter, but eventually surged ahead to lead by as many as 14 in the third quarter and hold on through a tough challenge from Finlandia (3-12) in the second half. The Lions shot 45.0 percent for the game, knocking down 13 three-pointers, including seven in the second half.
Sophomore
Hannah Norlin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield H.S.) had 20 points to lead the Yellowjackets, while junior
Bailee Bartunek (Audobon, Minn./Lake Park-Audobon H.S.) added a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Junior
Hailey Kontny (Superior, Wis./Superior H.S.) had 13 points and eight rebounds, junior
Jade Tucker (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake Area H.S.) had 12 points, and
Amelia Leger (Andover, Minn./Andover H.S.) had 11 points each in starts. Freshman
Eva Reinertsen (Duluth, Minn./Homeschooled) scored 10 points off the bench while fellow first-year
Megan Aho (Floodwood, Minn./Floodwood H.S.) nearly made it seven players in double figures with nine on the day. Julie Daavettila had a game-high 24 points for Finlandia, while three other Lions contributed 16 points each.
