The University of Wisconsin Superior trailed at halftime but rolled to an eventual 17-point victory, defeating Northland College 81-64 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play on Saturday afternoon in Ashland, Wisconsin.
Junior guard
Hailey Kontny (Superior, Wis./Superior H.S.) scored 31 points to lead the Yellowjackets, who led by as many as 23 points late in the fourth quarter. Trailing 21-19 after the first quarter and 38-34 at halftime, UW-Superior (16-4, 11-0 UMAC) would out-score the LumberJills 21-8 in the third quarter and 47-26 in the second half as the Yellowjackets rolled to a steady victory in the second half. Hannah Norlin (Litchfield, Minn./Litchfield H.S.) added 12 points for UWS while junior
Bailee Bartunek (Audobon, Minn./Lake Park-Audobon H.S.) had eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Yellowjackets shot 44.9 percent for the game (31-of-69), knocking down 17-of-33 (51.5 percent) in the second half while also hitting 13-of-18 from the free throw line during the come-from-behind victory. Northland shot 51.2 percent in the first half but finished the game cold, hitting 7-of-28 in the second half to shoot 22-of-57 for the game (38.6 percent).
