The University of Wisconsin Superior could not get its offense going Friday in the team's second-to-last regular season stop at Wessman Arena, as the Yellowjackets fell 2-0 to the University of Wisconsin River Falls in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action in Superior.
The defeat will make the search for a home playoff game that much tougher for UW-Superior (7-14-1, 1-4-0 WIAC) who now sits a game behind the University of Wisconsin Stout for the fourth-seed a chance at hosting the first round series later this month. A win on Friday could have propelled the Yellowjackets up to the third seed, which would bypass the first round altogether and move straight to the semifinals. That honor belonged to UW-River Falls (12-10-1, 3-3-0 WIAC) however as the Falcons scored at the midpoint of the first and late in the third to knock off UWS in shutout fashion. Mike Fazio had the game's first goal as well as an assist for River Falls, while Aussie Miller put the game on ice in the third.
Junior goaltender
Kyle Miller (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake H.S.) made 28 stops for the Yellowjackets before being pulled for an extra skater in the final 46 seconds, while Zach Quinn had 29 saves for the Falcons. Senior defender
Eric Shand (San Dimas, Calif./San Dimas H.S.) had a team-high five shots to lead UW-Superior. Both teams would finish 0-for-4 on the powerplay.
