Superior downed by Bethel in second half

UW-Superior 1, Bethel 3

SUPERIOR, Wis. (October 12, 2017) – In their final non-conference game of the year, the Yellowjackets were downed by the Bethel Royals after allowing three goals in the second half.

The first half ended in a draw, as the 'Jackets were able to fend off 15 shots from the Royals, but were unable to produce a shot of their own. Sky Brown (Lenore, Man./Virden Collegiate Institute) was solid in goal, making four saves.

The second period started in the same way, until the Yellowjackets were able to turn the field and get a free kick from about 40 yards out. In the 61st minute, Britt Zieroth (Twig, Minn./Proctor) took the free kick and was able find Emma Street (Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis) on the left side of the box; she drove the ball to the top right corner for her second goal of the season.

In the following minutes, the Royals would bring the pressure on the goal. Bethel's Maggie Sipe would go on to score in the 78th minute to level the score 1-1, and follow that up with a goal two minutes later to go up 2-1. Sipe would score a hatrick in the 85th minute to put the game away 3-1.

Superior managed Street's one shot for the game, while Bethel had 32 shots, 11 on goal. Brown would make a career high eight saves in the game.

The Yellowjackets will be on the road this weekend, Saturday October 14, for a 12 p.m. game in New Ulm, Minn. to take on Martin Luther, and be back home on Tuesday October 17, to play Northwestern at 1 p.m.
