NEW ULM, Minn. (October 14, 2017) – The Yellowjackets made the long trip to New Ulm, Minn. Saturday to take on Martin Luther. In a well-played defensive game, Superior lost in overtime.
The 'Jackets were able to fend off the Luther attack in the first period, as the Knights got off 12 shots, including seven on goal. Superior produced four shots, two on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net, as the first period ended in a 0-0 draw.
The seconds half would also end in a 0-0 draw, and force the game into overtime. The Knights wasted no time ending the game, scoring in the 93rd minute. The ball was saved by
Bailey Henderson (Oakdale, Minn./North St. Paul), and then shot back in by the Knights.
Hendreson had a solid game in goal for the Yellowjackets, making 10 saves on 12 shots from the Knights. The 'Jackets got off eight shots in the game, including three from
Liza Shelquist (Pine Island, Minn./Pine Island), and two from
Britt Zieroth (Twig, Minn./Proctor);
Emma Street (Oak Grove, Minn./St. Francis) and
Hailey Kontny (Superior, Wis./Superior) also had one shot.
The Yellowjackets will return home this week, taking on the Northwestern Eagles on Tuesday Oct. 17 for a 1 p.m. game at the NBC Sports Complex.
