SUPERIOR, Wis. (October 25, 2017) – The Yellowjackets would continue their winning ways against the Northland Lumberjacks on Wednesday posting a shutout for the second time this season;
Jon Bucklew (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) would finish with a hat trick on the day.
The first half included five goals for Superior, starting with
Eric Watson (Thunder Bay, Ont./Hammarskjold) in the 5th minute on a deflected one-timer in the middle of the box. Bucklew would get his first goal four minutes later, on an assisted ball from
Fernando Bicalho (Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil/Kickapoo (Mo.)) deep in the left side of the box. Bicalho would then get a goal for the Yellowjackets in the 14th minute on another deflected ball in the middle of the box.
The scoring would suppress until the 24th minute when Bucklew scored again, this time on a ball that was sent in by
Mualigbe Keita (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Prairie Seeds Academy).
Nick Piazza (Fitchburg, Wis./Madison West) would finish off the first half scoring with his second goal of the season in the 30th minute, putting the 'Jackets up 5-0.
The scoring continued in the second half with Bucklew getting the hat trick on a header, after Watson delivered the ball to the left edge of the goal in the 74th minute.
Leonardo Paredes (Campinas, Brazil/Sao Paschoall) would make the game 7-0 in the 82nd minute as
Blake Doyea (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka) faked the shot and sent it to Paredes on the right side for the score.
Superior would put up their highest shot total of the season with 43, while holding the Lumberjacks to only five shots;Â all coming in the second half.
Dalton VonKaenel (Eagan, Minn./Eagan H.S.) would spend 77 minutes in the goal for Superior, making one save.
Ulrik Lager (Vollen, Norway/Asker VGS) saw the last 13 minutes of the game getting the other of two saves on the day for Superior.
The Yellowjackets will finish out their regular season this Saturday, Oct. 28 at 3:15 as Minnesota Morris comes to the NBC Sports Complex.
