Superior shuts out Minnesota Morris at home

UW-Superior 5, Minnesota Morris 0

SUPERIOR, Wis. (October 28, 2017) – The Yellowjackets put on yet another show for the home crowd as they got the shutout against Minnesota Morris. Fernando Bicalho (Belo Horizonte, MG, Brazil/Kickapoo (Mo.)) scored two goals in the win.

The 'Jackets didn't waste any time in the first period, as Jon Bucklew (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) scored his 11th goal of the season 20 seconds into the match. Bicalho was next at the 10-minute mark for his fourth of the season. Jonah Garcia (Eagan, Minn./Eagan H.S.) would score his fourth from the back line at 40 minutes, getting the assist from Miguel Ocampo (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park).

Superior went into halftime up 3-0.

Bicalho would find the goal again in the 70th minute, assisted by Adrian Leal (Alicante, Spain/IES Cabo de la Huerta), and Mason Tynsky (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall) would score his second of the season at 85 minutes, as Ocampo found his second assist of the game lobbing the ball from the right corner.

Superior played great defense in the cold and icy conditions, allowing only one shot for the Cougars, compared to the 22 shots they added on offense.

Dalton VonKaenel (Eagan, Minn./Eagan H.S.) got the start in goal for the Yellowjackets but didn't make a save in his 81 minutes. Brandon Johnson (East Grand Forks, Minn./East Grand Forks Senior) came in with nine minutes remaining in the second half to make the lone save.

The Yellowjackets will host a UMAC semifinal game next Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the NBC Sports Complex, as Northwestern makes the trip to Superior for the second time in two weeks.
