St. Mary's 3, UW-Superior 2

WINONA, Minn. (October 8, 2017) – In a non-conference contest, UW-Superior fell in the final seconds of a road game against the University of St. Mary's Cardinal.

St. Mary's scored two early goals in the first half to go up 2-0 on the 'Jackets around the 23rd minute. Superior would have to wait until the second half to make their move.

At the 52nd minute mark, Jon Bucklew (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) made his move, scoring his fourth goal of the season on a double assisted shot from Adrian Leal (Alicante, Spain/IES Cabo de la Huerta) and Danny Kearns (Greenock, Scotland/Clydeview Academy). Another Yellowjacket struck next, as transfer Aaron Blanchard (Omaha, Neb./Millard North) scored his first Yellowjacket goal, unassisted. This would level the game 2-2 in the 82nd minute.

Superior's defense would hold off the Cardinal until Charles Reit scored with 49 seconds remaining to go up 3-2.

Dalton VonKaenel (Eagan, Minn./Eagan H.S.) would play all 90 minutes in the game, making three two saves on the day in eight shots faced. Superior fired 13 shots as seven of them were on goal.

The Yellowjackets will return home this week as they take on another non-conference opponent in St. John's on Wednesday Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.
