Colorado College 60, UW-Superior 48
MENOMONIE, Wis. (November 17, 2017) – The Yellowjackets started their new season, the first under head coach Greg Polkowski, at UW-Stout in the Tip-Off Tournament. Superior would succumb to the Colorado College Tigers in the first game of the tournament.
Superior recorded the first points of the game, and of their 2017-18 campaign on a Montroy Scott (Fridley, Minn./Columbia Heights) mid-ranged jumper, to take a very early 2-0 lead at 19:20. The Tigers would jump out to a 12-6 lead five minutes into the period, but Shaq Coleman (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) provided a two-point jumper, layup and back-to-back free throws to tie the game at 14-14 with 9:07 remaining in the half..
Superior would keep it close to the end of the first half, Nate Kalien (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls) would sink a layup and Vid Milenkovic (Zurich, Switzerland/DSB Belgrade, Serbia) would record a block to end the half 24-19 Colorado College on top.
The Yellowjackets would play tough in the second half, a Colton Williams (Columbia Heights, Minn. /Columbia Heights) block and two Scott free throws would cut the lead to seven points at 30-23. Coleman added another mid-ranged jumper, assisted by Kalien, at 6:10, and Trevor Oswald (Isle, Minn./Isle) would do the same at 4:11 to make it a 53-37 game, but Superior would fall 60-48.
Coleman finished with a team-high 20 points for the Yellowjackets; he also grabbed seven rebounds and assisted on three buckets. Williams would score 11 points in his debut in a 'Jacket uniform.
The Tigers' CooXooEii Black scored a game-high 22 points.
Superior will play in the consolation game tomorrow afternoon 2 p.m.
