UW-Stevens Point 2, UW-Superior 1
STEVENS POINT, Wis. (November 18, 2017) – Superior suffered its first WIAC loss this season, falling to the UW-Stevens Point Pointers on the road.
The first period was neck-and-neck, both teams found shots, faceoff wins to no score. Saige Patrick (Steinbach, Man./St. Mary's Academy) would find herself in the penalty box midway through the period, but the 'Jackets provided good special teams to kill the Stevens Point power play. The first period horn sounded with a 0-0 draw.
The second period would prove to be more interesting. The Pointers found the twine first, getting the goal at 10:19. Molly Shelton (Pine Island, Minn./Pine Island) would then score at the 15:53 mark unassisted to knot the game at 1-1. Superior would get another chance on a power play, but couldn't get the puck between the pipes. The second period ended like the first, tied.
The two teams would battle in the final period of play, getting power play chances, until Stevens Point scored a power-play goal at 18:52. The Yellowjackets would get only one shot off in the final 1:08 remaining, but couldn't sink it, falling 2-1.
Superior out shot the Pointers 36-35, getting 23 on goal, while also dramatically winning faceoffs 41-14.
The 'Jackets will look to bounce back next Tuesday as they face Augsburg in Minneapolis at 7 p.m.
