UW-Eau Claire 69, UW-Superior 60
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (November 28, 2017) – The Yellowjackets had four starters in double-digits Tuesday night, but couldn't pull out the win over the Eau Claire Blugolds. Shaq Coleman (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) finished with 15 points.
Superior was down 14-6 around the 12-minute mark of the first half, but Nate Kalien (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls) soon hit a 3-pointer to get the Blugold lead to only five. Tirik Reeves (Fridley, Minn./Fridley) would hit the only Yellowjacket point, on a free throw, for around four minutes in the middle of the half, but both teams soon turned it on to end the half with Eau Claire up 38-24, as Kalien hit a 2-point jumper with 23 seconds left on the clock.
Coleman found five-straight points to open the second half, getting two layups and a free throw. Montroy Scott (Fridley, Minn./Columbia Heights) then hit a three, assisted by Coleman to get the Eau Claire lead to 12 points. The Yellowjackets smallest differential would be nine points, twice; Colton Williams (Columbia Heights, Minn. /Columbia Heights) hit from beyond the arc, assisted Coleman with 1:11 remaining, and then again as Vid Milenkovic (Zurich, Switzerland/DSB Belgrade, Serbia) had a Coleman-assisted layup to end the game.
Superior struggled to get to the free throw line for the second straight game, shooting only four in the entire game, while the Blugolds hit all of their four. The Yellowjackets countered that with 50 percent shooting from beyond the arc, 9-of-18.
Coleman had six assists to go along with his 15 points, while Milenkovic and Williams had 12 each, followed by Scott with 11. Kalien finished with nine points in 38 minutes.
Eau Claire's, and WIAC scoring leader, George Diekelman matched his average with 19 points.
The Yellowjackets will come home for their one contest this weekend, taking their third-straight WIAC team in UW-Stevens Point Saturday, Dec. 2 at 5 p.m.
